Food Rules, Rule Number Seven

March 2, 2010

Do not eat it, so that all may go well with you and your children after you, because you do what is right in the sight of the Lord.

Deuteronomy 12:25

Kids are a source of great wisdom in our house, but I never thought of using them as a barometer of what to eat. They tend toward a lot of foods that I wouldn’t eat on my worst day, but hey, they’re Beigeterians*, like many toddlers.

If the idea of vetting food labels with a child seems a little obsessive, just try pronouncing the foods yourself and see how YOU do. Or imagine what it might have been like to read such things when you were that age. Odds are good you will play into the spirit of this rule.

*pasta is beige, bread is beige, etc.
